Crochet Braids | FreeTress Wavy Senegalese Twists 18″

Hi lovlies!

As you can see from my Instagram, I’ve had some new hairstyles in the past month or so. That being said, today’s review is on the “FreeTress Hair Synthetic Crochet Braids Wavy Senegalese Twist”. I have never done true individual Senegalese twists from scratch before, outside of my super jumbo Senegalese twists that I did back in 2016.

I like to be experimental with my hairstyles & wanted to try something new for a girls trip I had planned. I wanted to go with something that wasn’t another faux loc style but still cute. When I saw these twists the initial images on the SamsBeauty.com product page didn’t exactly grab my attention & the style was actually more of a last resort kind of decision because I didn’t see anything else I really wanted to try at the time.

For my install I used 7 packs of the hair in the colour #1, with about 20 strands each. To my surprise I really liked the look of this hair as soon as it was installed. The twists were wavy as described & looked super natural. In my opinion however, they were more like “kinky twists” rather than Senegalese twists. Senegalese twists to me are smoother in texture while these had a more course texture.

Each strand of the twists had very small knots at the end to prevent unravelling I suppose. I, however, did not like them at all. I left them alone though & as the hair got older these knots became less & less noticeable & my desire to snip them off faded.

Care

These senegalese twists were super easy to take care of, I literally did nothing special to maintain it (as if I ever take special care of my hairstyles). At night I throw it up into a super large satin bonnet (if I remember to) & I would shake it out in the morning to get all the hair back in place.

I workout a lot, so being able to wash my hair is an absolute necessity for me (of course). This hair was very easy to wash and gave me no trouble at all. I washed about twice during the month I wore this hair. Even though I washed this hair in the traditional method with shampoo & conditioner, I also used dry shampoo inbetween washes when I could feel my scalp starting to get dirty. To keep the hair looking brand new I used a lot of my usual Creme of Nature Argan Oil Replenishing Sheen Spray.

Styling

From high ponytails to buns there is nothing you can’t do with these senegalese twists. I wore a top knot quite often and high ponytails to work and the gym. This hair can achieve some sure cute looks for any occasion, day or night. I always used my edge control to make my little baby hairs lay flat & my products of choice are the ORS Edge Control (I know a lot of people hate this, tell me why in the comments) & Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Paste.

Final Thoughts

I wore these twists for exactly a month. Taking down this hair was very easy, as with most crochet styles. I also washed the strands it & put them away for future use. I will wear this style again, for sure, it is very easy & requires little care, even less than my beloved locs! I also realized after I took down the hair that if I didn’t have another style to try I could have snipped the ends & untwisted the strands to get a “twist out” look. That could’ve been cute. Next time I wear these I will give that a try.

I also recommend this hair for those who want the twist look without sitting for hours to have it done. What can’t crochet braids do, seriously?!  I love that all the styles we love are now available in this easier to install method. Give me some ideas in the comments of styles you guys want to see me review in future. I will definitely try them out, I’m looking for some new hair to experiment with.
